Trisha Illana Nayanthara (If not Trisha, it’s Nayanthara) - Not sexy, but sleazy!
True, the title was quite intriguing at first. The trailer of the movie was equally provocative and the adult certification did its part to lure youngsters to the theaters. But the result was sadly quite disappointing. With GV Prakash, the new “hero aspirant” at the helm and a newbie director who is ready to dish out some sleazy content, there was hardly any room for sanity.
TIN is the story of a flirt, Jeeva (GVP), who also happens to be a male chauvinist, falling in love (?!) with his childhood sweethearts - Ramya (Anandhi) and Aditi (Manisha Yadav). His romantic fantasies and heartbreak episodes with these 2 girls is the plot of this insipidly made adult comedy.
It’s a fact that we can't make adult comedies like an American Pie due to various socio-cultural barriers, but with the little leeway that one has got, there is sure a space for directors who’d like to indulge in some “guilty” pleasure. A testimony to that was last year’s ‘Kalyana Samayal Saadham’. Though the movie didn’t fare well at the box office, it sure did get some attention for its daring content that was narrated amusingly.
When it comes to adult centric content in films, can SJ Surya's contribution be ignored? He had a knack of pulling off things in his initial days, once he went overboard, he had to bite the dust. That is where filmmakers need to draw the line. The conservative lot like a majority of us possess a psychological “Lakshman Rekha” that is independent of the censors, largely thanks to our upbringing no matter how globalised we claim ourselves to be. I would still earmark that as a mark of a mature audience.
Coming back to TIN - the slapstick, double entendre dialogs, one liners and so on were just thrust into the narrative and were misfired many a times. GVP’s acting was just one-dimensional and he happens to hide himself under an annoyed guy’s facial expression most of the time. Of the 2 girls, Anandhi has tried to put a decent show, whereas Manisha was not given a decent role and so was allowed to make room for some sleaze. VTV Ganesh seems to be filling Santhaanam’s shoes, but in a seemingly stale way. And what was Simran and Yugi Sethu doing in the movie? The plot, after a certain point felt too weak and was driven primarily by sleaze.
Director Adhik seems to show some promise as there was a cool introduction scene to showcase a funny back story for the leads with an MGR look alike running around and tickling ribs. But those kind of things ought to be channeled properly with good content and better actors. For now all I can wish him is better luck next time!
Verdict: 1.75 / 5
Rating: Damp squib!
